Happy Halloween

Jarrett didn't wear his costume so he was Elmo I guess. Here is Jarrett and Jackson with Grandma. We got LOTS of candy!

A lion for Halloween

How cute is Jackson? Sooooooooooo cute. He wasn't so sure about the fur but wore anyway. Check out that tail! He was so funny walking around pulling on his hat.
What else can I say?
His class went Trick-or-treating this morning at the retirement home behind the daycare. A turkey, a lion, a giraffe, superman, a bee and a dinosaur. They had lots of fun.

Jarrett put on his costume for about 10 minutes but decided he didn't want to wear it. I will hopefully have pictures of him later.

Jarrett's Allergy Tests

I asked my doctor to do blood allergy tests after reading about it on someone elses blog. He had some scratch tests in July and they were all negative. I questioned them because he was supposed to sit still for 20 minutes to give the test a chance. Yea, right. What 3 year old is going to sit still for 20 minutes. Anyway, Jarrett's tests came back negative on all except for 1 that was Equivocal (just barely). Here are the results. <0.05 means it is negative. 0.05 - 0.07 is Equivocal and it keeps going up from there. He is borderline allergic to corn. I don't think there is any danger of having a reaction because it is borderline and he doesn't eat corn.

Milk <0.05
Wheat <0.05
Corn 0.05
Peanut <0.05
Soybean <0.05
Pork <0.05
Beef <0.05
Fish/Shell mix <0.05
Egg, Whole <0.05
Chocolate/Cocoa <0.05

Jarrett is doing well in preschool and is going potty more and more each week. He may be potty trained before he heads off to kindergarten, at least I hope.

Jackson's 15 month check up

Can you believe that Jackson is 15 months old? I can't either. Here are his stats:

Height 31 inches 45th percentile
Weight 27 pounds 4 oz 80th percentile
Head circumference 19 inches 80th percentile

He got a shot and it made him extremely mad. I asked the doctor about the blood allergy tests that were done on him and Jarrett and they have Jarrett's results but not his. The doctor prescribed Albuterol which is used to "treat wheezing and shortness of breath from lung problems (e.g. asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)" because he has had a cough and runny nose for about 3 months now. We have a nebulizer and he has been on Triaminic and/or Delsym also. The pharmacist said it could make him cranky. Great. The patient information leaflet kind of sounds like those commercials on TV. "SIDE EFFECTS: Nervousness, shaking, headache, trouble sleeping, dizziness or nausea may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly. . . . Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: fast/pounding/irregular heartbeat, chest pain, muscle cramps, weakness." It goes on but I'm getting tired of typing. I am a little worried about giving it to him. Why would I purposely give him something that will make him more cranky?

Church and a hair cut

Chris and I were in the Church nursery today with 5 boys. Jackson, Zachary, Jarrett, Dominick and Michael. We do have a few girls at church sometimes but not very often. We enjoy our time in the nursery. We sang and played and tried to keep the peace. Before church I was surprised to hear Chris say that he wanted to get his hair cut. Wow. Here is the before picture.
Here is a during picture.
And here is after.
He told them to leave it about an inch long. We were going to have them measure before they cut it but we forgot. For some reason he kept his hair. I don't know why. It is enough to make a wig. What do you think?

Monday Night Football

Monday night Maize JV played Salina. We lost 13-7. I sneaked out to the sideline to take a picture of Chris. He is number 49 in the middle of the picture. I am very proud of Chris for sticking with football. He has gotten up 4 days a week ALL SUMMER LONG FOR 3 YEARS to be at conditioning at 6:30 am. During school he practices 4 days a week and has 2 games a week. He is self motivated and I can tell you when I was his age I didn't get up early for nothing. Who am I kidding, I only get up early if I have to and if I do get up early you better believe I will be taking a nap if at all possible. Chris is a really good kid and I am proud of him.

A day in Manhattan.

Sunday we drove up to Manhattan to visit Aunt Kay, Grandpa and Andy. Jackson and Jarrett liked playing the piano.
But soon it was nap time. I tried to rock Jackson to sleep. He wanted no part of it. Kay tried, but got nowhere. Matt tried and it just made him mad. Finally, Grandpa rocked Jackson to sleep. He is hired!Kay and Jackson at the piano again. Nothing like a little music on a Sunday afternoon to go with your football.Jarrett switched to the organ. I couldn't get it to work but he pushed enough buttons that he got it to play. Kay had a cool swing in the back yard. When Jarrett wasn't chasing Benji he was swinging.
Matt and Jackson liked to swing too. We went out to dinner before heading back home. We enjoyed visiting with Kay, Andy and Grandpa.
I couldn't help myself. I had to take a picture of the boys when we got home at about 11:00 pm. If I slept like that I would have a stiff neck for a week! They had so much fun that they were just pooped out.

Maize Fall Festival

Today we sent to the Maize Fall Festival. The boys really liked the parade, especially the candy. Jarrett, Matt and Jackson. Jarrett caught on quickly that you run out and grab the candy and put it in the bag and then grab some more.
Jarrett using his homemade binoculars to see the band.
Next we went to the big bouncy things. They were pretty cool. Jackson liked it but he didn't play on it much.
Jarrett REALLY enjoyed them. He jumped and jumped and jumped. Then he climbed up to the slide. We were impressed that the 18 month old climbing beside him was faster and seemed to have no fear. His mother was not impressed, she seemed tired.

Friday Night Lights

Friday night at Chris's football game. Grandpa, Jarrett and Grandma. Jarrett and the Maize Eagle's mascot. I can't believe he actually got that close to him.
Why I don't take very many pictures at football games. Can you see Chris?

Zachary, Jarrett, Kayla and Jacob.
Julie, Dakota and Jackson.
Kayla and Jackson.
We were all excited to see each other. We live about a mile apart but don't see each other much. We are just too busy. We will have to get together again real soon.

Jackson's First Haircut

Here is Jackson. He doesn't have a lot of hair but the comb over was getting out of hand. I really like the curls of hair on the back of his head but Daddy said they had to go despite the fact that his Mother would have LOVED them.
During the hair cut he played with combs and tried to escape.Rachel was very patient and finally won the battle. We saved his hair and got a certificate to put in his baby book. Ahhhhhh . . . isn't that sweet?

What do these 5 things describe?

1. The undermining of the dignity and sanctity of the home which is the basis of human society.
2. Higher and higher taxes; the spending of public money for free bread and circuses of the populace.
3. The mad craze for pleasure; sports becoming every year more exciting brutal and immoral.
4. The building of great armaments when the real enemy was within-- the decay of individual responsibility.
5. The decay of religion; faith fading into mere form, losing touch with life, losing power to guide the people.

Please put your guess in the comments.

Give up? Highlight here . ---> I got this information from my pastor. He got it from "The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire" written in 1788 by Edward Gibbon. Interesting isn't it?
